Cracking Today’s Pips Grid: A July 7th Challenge

Here at WordFinder Tips, we’re always ready to jump into the latest NYT Pips game, and today’s July 7, 2026 puzzle was a real brain-bender! Man, those tiny ‘sum 0’ regions in the Hard puzzle almost made me pull my hair out; they’re so restrictive, you’d think they’d be easy, but they demand such precise domino placement.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely spent a few extra minutes staring at the Medium grid, trying to figure out the best approach for those ‘equals’ regions next to an ’empty’ cell. It’s always a fun challenge, though, and that’s why we keep coming back for more Pips today!

Unlocking the Domino Logic for Pips Today

Decoding the Zero & One Sum Regions

Today’s Pips puzzles, especially the Hard one, were packed with ‘sum 0’ and ‘sum 1’ regions. These are your best friends for finding initial placements, as a ‘sum 0’ region can only hold a domino with two zero pips, and a ‘sum 1’ region must contain a domino with a 0 and a 1 pip.

Look for these small sum regions first; they drastically reduce the number of possible dominoes you can place. Once you’ve locked those down, you’ll often find chains of logic opening up across the board, making the rest of the Pips game much clearer.

Tackling Those Pesky Empty & Equals Cells

The ’empty’ cells, like the one in the Medium puzzle at `[0,5]`, are also super important. They tell you exactly where *not* to place a domino, which can be just as helpful as knowing where to place one.

📖 How to Play NYT Pips

🎯 The Goal of the Game

Place all given dominoes onto the grid so that every region’s strict mathematical condition is met. Every day brings a new layout and domino set.

➕ Understanding Region Symbols
  • Number: The sum of all pips inside this region must equal this exact target number.
  • < (Less Than): The total pips must be strictly less than the target number.
  • > (Greater Than): The total pips must be strictly greater than the target number.
  • = (Equals): All individual cells in this region must have the exact same pip value.
  • ≠ (Unequal): No two cells in this region can share the same pip value.
🔲 Empty Regions & Placement Rules

Regions without any symbol or target are “Empty” regions. The sum of pips inside these specific regions MUST be exactly 0 (meaning only blank halves of dominoes can be placed here). Remember, dominoes can be rotated, but they cannot overlap or hang outside the grid.
